One system, both seasons
Heat Pump Services for Auburn Homes
Repairs, replacements and new installs for the one system doing your cooling and your heating, with plain answers about what is normal and what is not.
Normal Quirks Versus Real Problems
Heat pumps relocate warmth instead of burning fuel to create it. In July it pulls warmth out of your house and releases it outdoors. In January a valve reverses the process and that same box out back pulls warmth from the cold air and moves it indoors. That works well in a climate like ours, with long cooling seasons and mostly moderate winters. It also means the equipment rarely gets a break. Some of what owners notice is perfectly normal. On a cold, wet morning the outdoor unit may stop, hiss and release a cloud of steam. That is a defrost cycle and it should finish in a few minutes. On the coldest nights, backup electric heat may kick in to help. Also normal. What deserves a call is ice that keeps building, backup heat running constantly, a unit stuck in heating or cooling mode, or air that never warms up. Those usually point to a reversing valve, a defrost board or sensor, a refrigerant issue or restricted airflow. Homes with dual fuel, where a gas furnace backs up the heat pump, need the changeover point set correctly too. We explain which is which, fix what is broken and never charge you to repair normal behavior.
Heat Pump Work We Take On
We service one-speed, two-speed and dual-fuel heat pump setups.
Defrost faults
Coils that stay frozen, boards that never trigger defrost and sensors reading wrong, tested and repaired.
Stuck in one mode
Valves and their solenoids that will not shift between heating and cooling, diagnosed and fixed.
Backup heat
Auxiliary strips that run nonstop or never come on, checked along with their controls.
Dual-fuel changeover
Furnace and heat pump combinations programmed to trade off at a sensible outdoor reading.
Low charge
Refrigerant leaks that hurt both heating and cooling, located and repair options explained.
Fans and compressors
Hard starts, noisy fans and breaker trips traced to capacitors, motors or compressors.
Replacement units
Worn heat pumps replaced with equipment sized for your home and matched indoors.
New installs
Moving from a cooling-only system to a heat pump, or adding a gas furnace for dual fuel, mapped out and installed.
Our Heat Pump Checkup
Run both directions
The system gets run in both directions. We make sure the reversing valve moves, observe a defrost cycle if the weather cooperates and record electrical, refrigerant and airflow readings. Backup heat gets tested separately.
Sort normal from broken
We explain which behavior is just how heat pumps work and which is a fault, then give you the repair price, or repair and replacement prices if the unit is older.
Repair, then prove it
With the fault corrected, we flip it between heating and cooling once more so you can watch the changeover happen cleanly.
Why Heat Pump Owners Like Working With Us
No fixing what is fine
Defrost steam and backup heat get explained, not billed as repairs.
Dual fuel dialed in
Changeover settings checked so each heat source runs when it should.
Both prices, no push
On older units, repair and replacement are priced side by side.
- Both modes tested
- Defrost verified
- Backup heat checked
- Honest pricing
Not Sure if Your Heat Pump Is Okay?
Describe what you are seeing, steam, ice, cold air or a unit that will not switch, and we will explain whether that is expected and repair it if it is not.
